A salad-server fork finished with a flattened silver ball at the end of its handle, with a shortened rat-tail worked on the back of the fork - the rat-tail a traditional flatware reinforcement here abbreviated into a design detail. The flattened terminal ball gives the handle its weight and resolution.
The piece belongs to the first design period, its hand-finished character reflecting the Las Delicias workshop where Spratling led the Taxco silver revival.
The fork is recorded in Cederwall and Riney's Spratling Silver and its Centennial Edition.
