The spoon comes from Spratling's First Design Period, 1931 to 1946, the formative years when the Las Delicias workshop was working out how Mexican materials and handwrought technique could be applied across a full table service, not just jewelry. Stone-set flatware was part of that program, extending the workshop's signature pairing of silver with native Guerrero stones to objects meant for use.

Flatware survives in smaller numbers than Spratling's jewelry, and a stone-set example comes to market only occasionally. The piece reflects the broader ambition of the Taxco revival Spratling led: that handwrought silver belonged on the dining table as much as on the body.
