A 'Wild Leaves with Flowers' necklace grows out of a source close to Margot van Voorhies Carr's own habits. Those who traveled with her recalled that she loved flowers and was never without a magnifying glass, stopping to study unusual flowering plants by the roadside (Morrill, p. 168), and that botanical attention fed directly into her designs.
Worked in sterling silver with enamel, the necklace belongs to the line on which Margot built her name. Champlevé enamel-on-silver had originated at Los Castillo with Reveriano Castillo and Miguel Melendez, and Margot perfected it into one of her major lines (Morrill, p. 166).
She designed every model her workshop made, documenting the dies, enamel colors, and finishing for each (Morrill, p. 168), so a named foliate design was a defined part of her catalog.
