Antonio Pineda is best known for sculptural jewelry, but the same modernist discipline carried into the flatware his workshop produced for the table. This geometric flatware shows that sensibility extended to functional silver, where clean form takes the place of applied decoration.
Working from his own Taxco taller in the tradition established by William Spratling's silver revival, Pineda became a defining figure of mid-century Mexican modernist silver. This view of the flatware is recorded in Gobi Stromberg's Silver Seduction: The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda (2008, p. 175, plate 251c).
