Simple Heavy Silver Domed Ring

A simple, heavy domed ring, this is one of the rare Spratling designs that bridged his career: first made in the first period, 1931 to 1946, it was among the few he used again in the 1950s and 1960s.

The weight and the plain swelling dome are the design entirely, the kind of reduction to essential form Morrill identifies in Spratling's pared-down objects (Morrill, p. 73). That it was revived two decades later marks it as a form the workshop and its buyers kept returning to.

Few early designs carried forward into the later workshop, which makes this ring a small instance of continuity across Spratling's production.
