This silver tumbler belongs to Antonio Pineda's holloware, the side of his Taxco workshop that carried his modernist sensibility beyond jewelry into objects for daily use. It is recorded in Gobi Stromberg's Silver Seduction: The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda (2008, p. 178, plate 255b).
Pineda built his reputation on clean form and high finish, qualities that translate readily to a simple drinking vessel where proportion and surface carry the whole effect. Made in his Taxco workshop and marked as his work, the tumbler shows that discipline applied to functional silver.
Recorded in the standard reference on Pineda's output, the tumbler comes to market only occasionally.
