Early Conch Motif Creamer

An early oval open creamer in the Ovalado pattern, distinguished by a motif at the handle attachment depicting the cross-section of a conch shell. The shell motif is the piece's signature - a natural form abstracted and worked into the point where handle meets body, in the manner Stromberg describes of Spratling translating organic and pre-Columbian sources into accessible modern design (p. 27).

The rosewood handle set against the raised silver body reflects the material contrast Morrill ties to Spratling's affinity with Puiforcat (p. 224). The piece belongs to the first design period at Las Delicias.
