Curatorial note

A crossover ring in silver, its ends set with inserts of Mexican turquoise - the band crossing over itself so the stones meet at the overlap. The same design was also made with amethysts in place of the turquoise, the two stones offering different native Mexican colors within one form.

Turquoise and amethyst both recur through Spratling's first-period jewelry, the stones chosen for color against silver. The crossover band is a compact, sculptural resolution of a small object.

With no scholarly reference recorded, this is a modestly documented variant of a stone-set ring design.
