Ring with Amethyst Cabochon Flanked by Small Silver Balls

An amethyst cabochon flanked on each side by small silver balls gives this ring its form, the violet stone framed by the workshop's recurring beadwork. Amethyst was among Spratling's preferred stones, its color read as native Mexican against the silver.

The ring is dated by the maker's own records: it was probably made from about 1940 until 1945 according to listings in Spratling's wholesale catalogs, and was produced in two scales, larger and smaller, of which this is the smaller. The catalog evidence ties it firmly to the late first design period.
